Google has impacted on people’s lives massively both very positively but also negatively.

Nicholas Carr a writer asks Is Google making us stupid?

He said that the deep reading that used to come natuarally to him has become a struggle.   The web has been a godsend to him as a writer as research that required days can be done in minutes.  The advantages he states of having such an incredible rich store of information are many but it comes at a price.

How he sees the net affecting him is that it seems to be chipping away at his capacity for concentration and contemplation.  His mind expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it; in a swiftly moving stream.  He states once he was a scuba diver in the sea of words now he zips along the surface like a guy on a jet ski.

Web search technology in general and Google in particular is the all important tool we have to-day to extract information from a vast mine of data.  Millions of people use google daily to satisfy their wants and needs.  Google has transformed these needs and wants into a successful business.

Small businesses claim that Google is unfair to them by promoting large businesses.

Google and its potential impact on retailers without physical stores.
Google has changed how it displays local search results.   Big companies like Amazon won’t be effected because they have their own following.
With Google placing more emphasis on local listing e.g. clothing stores Next, Top Shop New Look this is good news for them but not so good for on-line only competitors.  These retailers are alreadiy evolving and aligning themselves with Youtube something Frech Connection have already started to explore with ‘Youtique’ and also how these retailers will use facebook and twitter.

Google is not just a search engine it has a lot more features built in like street maps, image search and videosearch.   Users can create a free e-mail address which will allow them to sign into Google and get more features like Google documents which has the unique ability to share with other users signed on to Google this allows 2 or more people to share and edit the same document.  It also allows you to post on Youtube and it also allows you to use Google plus.  Google plus is a social network similair to facebook but is more secure regarding privacy.  At this time it is not well known it has to build up a data base.

You Tube is important to give people both individually and in groups an outlet for their talents,
, for example NC4 animations were aired there this was very satisfying.

1 – It allows people the access and opportunity to broadcast themselves or other sorts of video media onto the internetYoutube can be used as a tool to put yourself and your talents out for the world to see and judge.

2 – It creates internet celebrities.  On 16th July 2010 Justin Bieber’s video ‘Baby’ became the most viewed video of all time on Youtube with over 245 million views.

3 – Follow the money trail.  Google paid 1.65billion dollars in 2006 for Youtube Yahoo was also at this time in the bidding war but lost.   Obviously advertising is big business and companies must think it is worth while to buy advertising space on Youtube.

4 – Youtube is a video sharing website created by 3 former pay pal employees in Febrary 2005.  Users can upload and share videos and music.  Users must be over 18 years old. Link


people obviously get a lot from this site both in posting their own material and enjoying others creative abilities as can be seen from the hits on the ‘Baby’ video.  It also supports a lot of businesses in advertising.

Twitter is a powerful social media site that impacts peoples lives in various ways.  It only allows 140 characters around 2 sentences to be posted at one time.

1 – How the news and other media have changed to include twitter.   Twitter is often first to break news offering an immediate discussion forum. It also allows for amplifying stories that have appeared in traditional formats.

2 – Social Websites harm children’s brains.   Websites such as facebook twitter bebo are said to shorten attention spans,encourage instant gratification and make young people more self-centered.  This claim is made by Susan Greenfield an Oxford University Neuroscientist.

3 – Riot in London.  A number of politicians media commentators and members of the police force have suggested that Twitter and Blackberry Messenger, in particular had a role to play in the violence in London in August 2011.

Facebook has impacted on peoples lives for good or bad in various ways:

1 – It allows people within society to keep in touch with one another in an easily accessible and immediate manner.  It also allows others to see what you have being doing and use this in some cases to fire you.  The evidence below is just one case there have been many over the passed years.

2 – Impact on disabled people.  Facebook gives a voice to disabled people who otherwise may not be heard.  As well as allowing easy access to family friends and work collegues, it allows disabled people to keep informed on their rights and much more  in an easily accessible way.

3- Information used by Facebook to make money.  Facebook offers services in exchange for the right to collect demographic and preference data from it’s users.  The number of facebook accounts is over 500million and facebook provides data tools to advertisers that help it make impressions on targeted audiences,

4 – Facebook as an effective business Tool.  There are a huge number of websites advertising facebook for business use it is obvious there is a market for this. Gigaom has a site stating 32 Ways to use facebook for business.

5 – People are hooked on Facebook.   A study shows that one third of Americans regularly use facebook in the bathroom. Link

Facebook impacts on its users lives not only within family and friends but in the workplace , negatively in the case highlighted in number 1. .
It ‘s importance is also acknowledged within service provision as can be seen from the web address in number 2.
Privacy is an issue see number 3.
Businesses do take such a resource into account  – number 4.   People even use facebook in bathroom see number 5

Animation finished movie

I finished the task assigned the animation movie is one minute 15 seconds long and took 286 images to complete.  I used photoshop to resize the pictures and used wmv movie maker.    Iused Adobe Pro to add title and credits and to create the movie.  For the sounds I used   The finished product in now on youtube the link is

No this is too much trouble at the moment.  I will not be changing because all the changes that they have made make the site look messy.

Reality-based ProcessingReality-based processing is used by the left hemisphere as a method for processing information with a basis on reality. This processing tool focuses on rules and regulations. An example of this would be how a left-brained person would completely understand the repercussions of turning in a late assignment or failing a test. A left-brained person also usually easily adjusts to changes in their environment.

Your Reality-based Analysis

The information you process may lack a basis on reality, but it does open the door to creativity. You do not show much focus for rules and regulations and do not adjust well to change in the environment. In fact, upon experiencing change in the environment, it spurs you to try to change it yourself instead of adjusting to it. But fantasy-oriented processing also provides the advantage of creativity to right-brained individuals, and since emotion is integral of the right side of the brain, anything a fantasy-oriented person becomes involved in emotionally will aid their ability to learn.

Your Fantasy-oriented Analysis

You have the ability to use both creativity and reality to process the information you receive. This is a unique gift that allows you to both focus on rules and regulations but to also act with creativity. You are able to adjusting to change, even though you might not like it, and you can become emotionally involved in your work if it interests you.
Nonverbal ProcessingNonverbal processing is a method used by the right hemisphere to process our thoughts with illustrations. Reliance on this method is why it is occasionally difficult for right-brained people to “find the right words” in certain situations. Straight across from the church is the road to the left you need to take.” With nonverbal processing, the directions that are given are extremely visual compared to the exact, sequential directions that would be given by a left-brained person.

Your Nonverbal Analysis

You have little ability in nonverbal processing. When you process your thoughts and ideas you mainly use words instead of illustrations. For example, if you were giving directions you may say, “Continue traveling west for 3 miles and turn north at the intersection.” You would give exact, logical directions in a very sequential manner.
Holistic ProcessingHolistic processing is a method used by the right hemisphere to process information. The information is processed from whole to parts. A right-brained person, through holistic processing, is able to see the big picture first, but not the details that accompany it. A strongly holistic person may often find that prior to listening to a lecture given by an instructor, they must first read the chapter so that they better understand what the lecture is about. This function is also what provides to you your visual spatial skills. It also aids in tasks such as dancing and gymnastics. Through holistic processing, memory is stored in auditory, visual, and spatial modalities.

You have difficulty seeing the whole picture, especially at the beginning of a project. You tend to process information you receive from its parts to its whole in a straight, progressive manner. When given a task, you tend to not bother asking “why,” but instinctively are able to do it.
Random ProcessingRandom processing is a method used by the right hemisphere for processing information. The information that is received is processed without priority. A right-brained person will usually jump from one task to another due to the random processing by their dominant right hemisphere. When you process information you have received, the real object is not important to you. You do not have to use the real object to make sense of what you have processed. For example, if solving a math problem you do not have to “draw out” the problem in order to find or understand the answer, and you do not have to visualize something to understand it. In other words, you may miss the forest for the trees, trying to deduce something complex when the answer is plain to see.
Intuitive ProcessingIntuitive processing is a method that is used by the right hemisphere to process information based on if it “feels” right or not. For example, a right-brained person may choose an answer on a test because they had a “gut” feeling and often they will be correct. Another example of this is how a right-brained person will know the correct answer to a math problem but will not understand the procedure of how they arrived at the correct answer.
